Eons.com was founded for the “over 50″ age group, especially the leading edge Baby Boomers.
Now, the founder, Jeff Taylor (himself 49 years old), has lifted the age “gate” and will allow anyone over the age of 13 to take part in Eons.
Will this work? Many people in their 40s were on waiting lists because they could not join yet. But, Baby Boomers are between 44 and 62 years of age this year. If the site is meant for Boomers, why not extend the age downwards?
However, many of the early adopters at Eons are angry and expressing that anger all over the site. It is interesting that Taylor did not originally think that it would be a social site but that is what has happened. Baby Boomers over 50 who thought they didn’t want a social site, promptly fell in love with the social networking possibilities on Eons. But many prefer to network with people their own age.
You can read Jeff Taylor’s online message to the Eons Community. We would enjoy hearing your comments about the change too. Is it good or bad?
For a good list of other Baby Boomer social networking sites, see this post at Boomer Consumer.
