If you had any doubt that baby boomer women are frantic about their aging faces and bodies, behold the success of Charla Krupp’s new book, “How Not to Look Old: Fast and Effortless Ways to Look 10 Years Younger, 10 pounds Lighter, 10 Times Better.”
It is to Krupp’s credit that she does not advocate plastic surgery. But, she goes for everything else from Botox to fillers to teeth whitening to “shapewear.” In a Time Magazine interview with Krupp she says,
“My whole focus is about the workplace….It’s not about getting a man, or holding on to your relationship. Of course, it spills over. But my focus is for the Boomer woman who is finding herself looking older than everybody else at work, and realizing that she’s very vulnerable.”
Actually I think there is a “moral” niche somewhere in here. Remember those color seminars we all went to back when? You know, you are a winter, spring, summer or fall and that season’s palette of colors were what you were supposed to wear. Actually it worked. How about workshops like that for older women with an emphasis on loving what you’ve got and just making it a bit better?
Ronnie Bennett at her blog, Time Goes By, has a few choice words about this book too.
